We asked the owner, Greg Martin, to tell us a little bit about Martins' lakes and this is what he said.
You don’t have to be interested in fishing to visit us here at Martins’ Lakes as we live in the middle of eighty acres of beautiful countryside. We are ideally located to go sight-seeing in St Emilion, Bordeaux, Brantome, Perigueux, as well as many different other locations and lots of local markets.
If you do want to wet a line, we have three different lakes to choose from, so whether you are a coarse fisherman or specimen carp hunter, we have something for you.
We have a choice of accommodation too – the three bedroom gite (holiday cottage) is fully equipped with everything you will need and has fabulous views across the swimming pool down to one of the lakes. There is English satellite TV and Wi-Fi, as well as a garage (which also houses a table tennis table if you fancy a bit of gentle activity between sunbathing, swimming and relaxing).
Jungle Lake has a 7m caravan with terrace and barbecue, and a separate bathroom. It is a very eco-friendly holiday as the electricity is provided via solar panels – but you do still have UK satellite TV!
For the more hardy customers, we have a wooden chalet set right on the edge of our largest lake (7 acres) in a truly secluded and beautiful location. The lake is stocked with mirror carp, grass carp, common carp, koi carp as well as huge cat fish and black bass.
Our local village has a fabulous bakery, butchers and really great bar/restaurant (where the owners speak English). You can’t go wrong if you pop down for a very affordable four course lunch, including wine, alternatively they offer a snack menu or a fancier evening menu.
It takes about 5 – 10 hours to drive to us from the north coast of France, depending on which port you arrive at. Our nearest airports are either Bordeaux or Bergerac (both approx. one hour away) and we offer tackle hire, fishing tuition etc. Basically, just ask if you have any questions or requests and we are happy to help.
